Sen. Landrieu Prepares for Battle
Category is National
Written by Westley Annis I don't get it. Late summer of 2005 the entire coastline of Louisiana gets whacked with two major hurricanes. The 38th largest city in the United States, in terms of population, is inundated with water for several weeks, and yet, Senator Tom Coburn, D-Ok, has been fighting the funding for the Morganza-to-the-Gulf Hurricane Protection Project and won't explain why. Is he trying to get beach front property in Oklahoma City? I say kudos to Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La, on her recent commitment to get funding approved from the Senate or bring it to a stand still. She had already introduced a separate bill this year to get funding, but has since gained the commitment of Senator Barbara Boxer, D-Ca, and Senator Harry Reid, D-Nv, to get the funding approved through the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). Even with that commitment, Sen. Landrieu is asking everyone to contact the members of the Senate's Committee on Environment and Public Works and tell them you support the WRDA. Just a little tip on contact members of Congress who do not represent you. If you want to send an email to a member of Congress, you have to use the web form on their website. However, in order to do so, you need to type in your address. If you don't type in an address that is within that particular members district, you will not be allowed to send the email. To get over this speed bump, before you access the form to send email, visit their Office Locations page. Write down the address for one of their in-state offices and use that to fill in the form.
